  • I agree, this headphone suck. The way you are describe the non slapping bass, I would say the entire sound is non slappy. This headphone is not good for music or movies or video games or podcast. So what exactly is it for. Comfort? M40x are better than these headphone in every way easily and they are cheaper

  • Hi Thank you for your informative review. A quick question, is it possible and also is it worth getting a balanced cable for these headphones to use on a portable hd audio player?
    Thank you

  • Sony's are up to 100 kHz. All pother compared are inferior.

  • DO NOT BUY THOSE HEADPHONES!!!!!! The cable is not compatible with standard cables. My cable is broken I can't replace it. There are offers online but they are expensive and I'm not even sure they are going to work with my stupid headphones. And there is no information about that on Sony's website. Don't make my mistake, don't buy them.

  • I got an offer for well-condition used MDR-1A for roughly $75, and also pinky red h.ear on MDR-100AAP (wired version) for about $62. Which one will you prefer me to get ya mate? Thanks for any input. I am really torn between the two models, I will be using them with my Ipod Touch 5th as my main source only for everyday casual music listening at home. More tracks like metal, rock, dance, hip-hop across my playlist.

  • After all, you pointed out the many significant flaws this model bears. Actually you only named two.
"Awesome" bass delivery is always a question of using an equalizer in favour of the style of music and also the performed recording techniques on a particular track/session.
True to material high- and mid-frequency reproduction is so much more important, because adjusting these freqs by equalizing is much more difficult, due to significantly smaller ranges compared to low freqs.

Also, a significant advantage of this headphone:
It simply is another design icon by sony, and no other company can hold up to the standard Sony provides in that field.
Other companies seem to design throw-away products. Sony is the only company caring for timeless design.

  • I remember watching one of your reviews before I purchased the MDR 1R a few years ago and I didn't agree with the review at all to the point of being a little fanboyish… Though I still support all Sony products and all of my electronics are Sony, I think this review was very accurate!! Nothing is ever perfect and the amount of noise that you can hear when listening to these really does bother me, but at the same time they sound great and look great, also very comfortable… So I guess that is the payoff for the outside noise interference. And Sony should sue Audio Technica for that design!! Hahaha

  • I bought these and got them today, but Im sending them back. I don´t like how they sound. The sound is very bland, with too much bass and to little mid. My favourite records don´t sound good with these headphones. Big dissapointment.
    They are very comfortable though.

  • When i want bass, i grab my MDR1A……what's lacking is a the 2-4k mid high frequency so its never harsh. Its a great sound and the sub? whooooo its there even at the lowest volume.
